The screw pump works according to the positive displacement principle and belongs to the group of positive displacement pumps. Two intermeshing screw spindles intermesh as rotor and counter-rotor in the housing. Due to the rotational movement, these convey the medium in the threaded cavities continuously and gently to the outlet with low shear forces.
The flow direction can be reversed by changing the direction of rotation. The flow rate remains uniform and reproducible. An additional module with throat and feed screw is available for highly viscous media.

Thanks to their virtually pulsation-free and gentle operation, they are particularly suitable for pressure- and shear-sensitive media such as cell suspensions, enzymes or emulsions.
Depending on the design, pumped media from very low to high temperatures (sometimes over 200 °C) are possible, for example for oils or chemical applications.
Conditionally; slightly abrasive media can also be conveyed with suitable materials, but a precise consideration of the application is decisive.
The flow rate is directly proportional to the speed, allowing precise and flexible control of the volume flow.
Dry running should be avoided with a single mechanical seal, as this leads to damage to the seals. The use of a double, flushed mechanical seal, on the other hand, allows dry running under suitable conditions.
Yes, as long as the materials are compatible, it can be used flexibly for different media, for example in multi-purpose chemical or industrial plants.
Screw pumps are basically self-priming - they generate a vacuum on the suction side when starting up. In practice, the self-priming height is up to 9 m water column, depending on the design and medium. The actual performance depends on the operating conditions.
